BLIND WATERSPORT 2019

In 2019 we had blind- and low vision people and we could use the vdws- workbooks in a good way for the low vision ones. For the blind- ones we need to explain everything and ask them to touch the equipment. But it works!

We had also autistic people and people with down- syndrom and we give them the books for showing the pictures.

Windsurfschool Tre E Sessanta: 5 giorni di Blind watersport

 

Continua la collaborazione tra Windsurfschool – Vdws watersport center – e Seable. Una cinque giorni con le nostre amiche slovene di blind watersport. Il windsurf non ha barriere e il mare è di tutti. CON GLI OCCHI DELLA PASSIONE

From 29/08 until 3/09/2017

Four years ago, we started our „social project” called Blind Watersport. In collaboration with Seable (http://seable.co.uk) – an award winning social enterprise, organizing accessible and active holidays for disabled people (individuals, couples, families and small groups) – we work mainly with blind people, and sometimes with people who have other physical impairments. From January on we got to know about 50 individuals, who all did windsurfing, SUP and canoeing. On the one hand, it was sometimes very difficult for us to deal with their physical condition. But on the other hand, they made impressive progress during the activities, especially when our blind friends – after 5 days of practice – could windsurf on their own, listening only to our instructions.

All experiences with Blind Watersport are a gift for us: Seeing the participants’ smile after a watersport session is a kind of magic.

360° Action Windsurfschool Catania – “Blind Windsurf”- Projects with disabled persons

“Blind Windsurf”

For two years, in addition to our normal “windsurf school work”, we work also with a tour operator (Seable: http://seable.co.uk/ )- an award winning social enterprise, organizing accessible and active holidays for disabled (individuals, couples, families and small groups).

We work mainly with blind people, and sometimes they have also some other physical disability.

We start with a part of theory at the beach with a simulator for explaining the equipment, the correct position on the board and how to start. They are blind persons, so we want they” touch the parts of windsurf”. Then we go into the water, at first only with the board for an acclimatization and then with sail and board. If we have a person with a serious physical disability, we explain only at the beach and then he goes in the water with canoe (for his safety).

In 2017 we have reservations until June (about 10 persons in every month)- we start with the first group in march. From June to December we have two more groups.
